Casa Frida, LGBT Shelter
Casa Frida, LGBT Shelter
The mission of Casa Frida, LGBT Shelter, is to protect and provide comprehensive support to those who seek our services, through shelter, legal support, psychosocial and medical assistance, food security, and mobility assistance.

The history of Casa Frida is a testimony of dedication and commitment to the protection and inclusion of the LGBT+ community in Mexico. Founded over three years ago in Mexico City, the shelter emerged in response to the growing need for a safe haven for LGBT+ people fleeing discrimination and violence in their home countries.

Since its inception, Casa Frida has grown and expanded its reach, establishing a network of shelters in different states of the country. In its ongoing quest to strengthen protection and integration processes, Casa Frida recently inaugurated its new headquarters in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. This strategic decision was based on the growing demand for services in the region and Casa Frida's commitment to reach out to marginalized and vulnerable communities throughout Mexico.

The new headquarters in Monterrey represents an important milestone in Casa Frida's history, marking a step forward in its mission to provide a safe and compassionate haven for LGBT+ refugees and asylum seekers. With a focus on strengthening protection and integration processes, the Monterrey headquarters is committed to providing emotional support, legal and social counseling, as well as vital resources such as food and housing for those in need.

Through collaboration with local organizations and community support, Casa Frida in Monterrey seeks to create an inclusive and supportive environment where all LGBT+ people feel welcome and safe. This new stage in Casa Frida's history represents a step forward in the fight for equality and justice for the LGBTIQ+ community in Mexico.

Food security is fundamental to guarantee the well-being and health of our LGBT+ refugee community. We recognize the specific challenges these individuals face due to discrimination, persecution, and violence in their countries of origin, leading them to seek refuge in Mexico. The increase in the number of LGBT+ refugees and asylum seekers reflects the urgent need to provide them with a safe and compassionate environment.

In our work, we are confronted with the reality that many LGBT+ refugees lack adequate access to nutritious and sufficient food. Food insecurity adds to their daily challenges, contributing to their vulnerability and exacerbating their situation. Therefore, it is essential to address this basic need by providing quality and sufficient food for our community.

Our focus is on providing an inclusive environment in which people can freely express their gender identity and sexual orientation without fear of reprisal. By ensuring food security at our headquarters, we are not only meeting a basic need, but also fostering a sense of belonging and emotional support among the refugees.
